Rasam Pagri Puja
The Hindu mythology says that when an elder member of the family dies, his responsibilities like thinking about the welfare of the family, following family traditions, carrying on the rituals of the family, etc. will move on the next eldest member in the family. This, in most of the cases is either the younger brother or the eldest son. To do so, the Rasam Pagri is organized by the family members.
On this day, the new chief of the family seeks the blessings of the deceased and the Brahmins along with other family members. He vows to keep up the good work in the family and pledges to follow in the footsteps of his elders. After the ritualistic prayers down by an experienced Pandit, the pagri is knighted upon the eldest family member so that the congregation can depart. After this ceremony, the family of the deceased gets back to their normal routine.
